HC Deb 22 February 1999 vol 326 c167W
Mr. Webb

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will estimate the cost of extending entitlement to invalid care allowance to those above state pension age. [71498]

Mr. Bayley

Extending eligibility for Invalid Care Allowance to people initially claiming aged 65 years or over would cost an estimated £30 million in terms of benefit expenditure in 1999–2000, including the cost of increased eligibility for carer premium within the income related benefits.Note: The expenditure estimate has been given at 1998–99 prices and is rounded to the nearest £5 million. Source: 1996–97 Family Resources Survey. Due to limitations in the survey data the estimate should be treated with caution.
