To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to introduce arrangements to monitor the management of after school care clubs for secondary school pupils. [71361]

Mr. Galbraith

We intend to issue shortly a consultation paper on the regulation of child care (including after school care clubs) and of early education. From 1 July 1999, this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament: it will be for Scottish Ministers to consider how best to take forward any administrative consequences in the light of consultation responses and for the Scottish Parliament to consider any legislative consequences.
