HC Deb 11 February 1999 vol 325 c307W
Mr. Soley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how many applications have been made by tenants to HOMES for a transfer of tenancy in each year since 1994; and what percentage of these applications were successful. [70095]

Mr. Raynsford

Information about the number of applicants for a transfer of tenancy through the HOMES mobility scheme is available only for the current year. Between April and December 1998 HOMES received 33,933 nominations and 5,319 people (6.4 per cent.) were housed through the scheme. For previous years information is available for the number of households successfully housed:

Year Number
1997–98 10,304
1996–97 9,872
1995–96 10,128
1994–95 9,552

HOMES also operates an exchange scheme, HOMESWAP. The number of households registering an interest in exchanging their homes through that scheme were:

Year Number
1998–99 April to January 29,478
1997–98 38,675
1996–97 41,675
1995–96 46,169
1994–95 44,817

Individuals arrange exchanges direct with other tenants and the landlords concerned, so no central record is available for the number of exchanges arranged through HOMESWAP.
