§ Mr. DenhamCourses leading to a diploma in midwifery last 3 years. Courses leading to a degree last either 3 or 4 years. For those who already hold a registered nursing qualification there is also a 78 week programme in midwifery.
The fees for midwifery degree or diploma courses vary from university to university. Where courses are commissioned by the National Health Service, students' fees are met in full from the non-medical education and training levy.

§ Mr. DenhamPrimary care group boards contain nurses who have a range of broad-based skills and specialities, including midwifery. Additional nurses with specialist skills have also been co-opted onto the boards.
