HC Deb 02 February 1999 vol 324 cc581-2W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what amount of money, underwritten by the ECGD for defence and other equipment entered in Part HI of Schedule I to the Export of Goods (Control) Order 1994 has been claimed by manufacturers, but not recovered from the Governments of(a) Indonesia, (b) Jordan, (c) Kenya, (d) Egypt and (e) Algeria. [67897]

Mr. Wilson

[holding answer 26 January 1999]: ECGD does not categorise the sales of defence or other equipment which it supports by reference to the Export of Goods (Control) Order 1994.

I can however advise my hon. Friend that, on the basis of records available, the balance of claims paid by ECGD which are outstanding for recovery in respect of sales of defence and other equipment (including non-lethal goods and services) to defence buyers in the named countries currently stands at:-

£ million
Country Number
(a) Indonesia 11
(b) Jordan 253
(c) Kenya 16
(d) Egypt 46
(e) Algeria 98

Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what proportion of the amount of money underwritten by the ECGD for defence and other equipment entered in Part III of Schedule I to the Export of Goods (Control) Order 1994 claimed by manufacturers, but not recovered from the Governments of(a) Indonesia, (b) Jordan, (c) Kenya, (d) Egypt and (e) Algeria, has been outstanding for (i) five years or more, (ii) two to five years, (iii) one to two years, (iv) six months to one year and (v) less than six months. [67894]

Mr. Wilson

[holding answer 26 January 1999]: ECGD does not maintain its records on a basis which would enable it to answer this question other than at disproportionate cost.
