HC Deb 01 February 1999 vol 324 c533W
Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the expected cost of(a) setting up and (b) annually operating the Food Standards Agency; and if he will make a statement. [67713]

Mr. Rooker

Setting up the FSA is expected to involve additional one-off costs of around £12 million per annum over three years and additional ongoing costs of about £29 million per annum, taking account of the collection costs associated with the proposed levy. In addition, current food safety and standards functions, and their associated expenditure, will transfer to the Food Standards Agency from MAFF, DH, and the devolved administrations.
