HC Deb 20 December 1999 vol 341 c351W
Dr. Cable

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what discussions he has held with the Football Association on the venues under consideration for the staging of major football matches during the reconstruction of Wembley Stadium; and what advice he is giving to the Football Association on appropriate locations. [102000]

Mr. Chris Smith

I will expect the Football Association, on considering alternative venues for major football matches while Wembley is under re-construction, to look to the wide range of excellent football stadiums available around Britain—including, of course, some built with Millennium Commission assistance. It is worth bearing in mind that we hosted EURO 96 in England, in a variety of venues, and demonstrated then that there are a number of excellent football stadiums that could be used.
