asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they support the proposal of the European Commission for a directive prohibiting discrimination on the grounds of racial or ethnic origin in employment, education, the provision of goods and services and social protection. [HL253]

We are keen to ensure that the protection enjoyed by citizens in this country applies throughout the European Union and we will support the Commission in bringing forward effective action to combat discrimination in Europe as a whole.
