HC Deb 14 December 1999 vol 341 cc108-9W
Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what responsibilities he retains in relation to the oversight of(a) security of airports in Northern Ireland and (b) management of the Northern Ireland Airport Police; and what responsibilities are devolved. [102440]

Mr. Ingram

As policing and security are reserved matters for administration by this Government, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland has retained all of his current responsibilities for the oversight of security at Northern Ireland airports and management of the Northern Ireland Airport Police. None of these responsibilities are being devolved at this time to the new Northern Ireland Assembly.

Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what undertakings were given by the purchasers at the time of the privatisation of the Northern Ireland International Airport in relation to the future management and independence of the Northern Ireland Airport Police; and what scrutiny has been conducted since as to the performance of these undertakings. [102441]

Mr. Mandelson

Responsibility for this subject has been devolved to the Northern Ireland Assembly and is therefore no longer a matter for the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
