HC Deb 19 October 1998 vol 317 c994W
Ms Kingham

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what actions his Department has taken to close the UNITA London office and ensure the removal from the United Kingdom of the UNITA representative Mr. Kandeya. [55228]

Mr. Tony Lloyd

Officials have visited Mr. Kandeya's commercial premises and satisfied themselves that there was no sign of any continuing association with UNITA. The situation is being kept under review. As far as we are aware, there are no offices or premises being maintained in the United Kingdom under the name of UNITA.

The Home Office have refused Mr. Kandeya's application for further leave to remain. Notice has been given that the Home Secretary intends to commence deportation proceedings against him. He has the right of appeal against this decision.
