§ Mrs. LiddellIn February this year, the Government responded to a report on teacher education and training, prepared by Sir Stewart Sutherland for the National Committee of Inquiry into Higher Education. As part of this response we set up a short term working group to look at two specific issues relating to initial teacher education in Scotland—quality assurance and arrangements for managing and developing the type and pattern of provision. I expect to receive a report from the working group within the next few months.
In March we issued for consultation revised draft guidelines for initial teacher education courses in Scotland. These guidelines set out the requirements which
