HC Deb 30 November 1998 vol 321 c96W
Mrs. Gillan

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what reply he has given to the invitation from the Sudanese Government for a United Kingdom verification mission to examine the Al-Shifa factory site. [61500]

Mr. Fatchett

A revised draft resolution on this issue has recently been submitted to the UN Security Council. We believe that this is the appropriate place for such suggestions to be considered.

We will continue to urge Sudan to become a party to the Chemical Weapons Convention, which prohibits the acquisition, development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons. It is supported by a verification regime consisting of data declarations and on-site inspections.
