HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 c697W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will place in the Library the interim results of the pilot studies on extension of the breast screening programme. [59713]

Mr. Hutton

Interim results of the pilot study carried out in Brighton (one of three such studies) were published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), Volume 317, page 388, dated 8 August 1998. Copies of the BMJ are available in the Library.

Mrs. Ann Winterton

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much extra funding has been made available to area health authorities for the provision of mammograms for women over 65 years of age. [59655]

Mr. Hutton

The National Health Service breast screening programme was set up in 1988. Women aged 50-64 are invited for screening by mammography every three years and women over the age of 64 may request to be screened every three years free of charge.

Provision for screening women over the age of 65 is included in health authority baseline resources and is not therefore specifically identified.
