§ Ms Estelle MorrisI announced on 29 July new arrangements for regular educational inspection, with published reports and follow-up action, both for schools in the Independent Schools Council associations and for others with pupils assisted from public funds. Educational inspection of the remaining mainstream independent schools will be covered in our forthcoming review of the statutory registration and monitoring system. Inspection of children's welfare in independent boarding schools will be improved in the ways set out in the Government's Response to the Children's Safeguards Review (Cm 4105), a copy of which is in the Library.
