HC Deb 09 November 1998 vol 319 cc91-2W
Mr. Duncan Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what assessment he has made of the level of an adequate retirement income for the purposes of the stakeholders pension. [58828]

Mr. Denham

It is for individuals to decide for themselves what would be an adequate retirement income.

At present many people who cannot join an occupational pension scheme also find personal pensions are too expensive or give poor value for money. The Government will set out their proposals in the Green Paper.

Mr. Duncan Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security when the Government plans to introduce legislation for the implementation of the stakeholder pension. [58827]

Mr. Denham

We are committed to creating a framework for stakeholder pension schemes and will bring forward any necessary legislation at the appropriate time. Our proposals will be set out in the Pensions Green Paper.
