HC Deb 09 November 1998 vol 319 c83W
Mr. Duncan

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what proportion of nurses are employed in the National Health Service on a part-time basis; and if he will make a statement. [57863]

Mr. Milburn

The proportion of nurses directly employed by the National Health Service in England on a part-time basis (including those employed through a nursing 'bank') was 47 per cent. at September 1997. This is equivalent to 33 per cent. if part-time staff are counted in terms of full-time equivalents, for example where an employee working half the hours of a full-time employee is counted as 0.5.
