To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the terms of reference of the Scottish Law Commission's investigation of the reform of Scottish land law. [57760]

The Scottish Law Commission's work on the reform of Scottish land law is part of its Fifth Programme of Law Reform submitted to the Lord Advocate on 7 February and published on 25 February 1997 published (Scot Law Com. No. 159). As stated in the programme under item No. 6 the Commission aims to make recommendations for the abolition of the system of feudal tenure and its replacement with a modern system based on the principle of absolute ownership of land.
