HC Deb 09 November 1998 vol 319 c59W
12. Dr. Iddon

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will make a statement on his Department's support for Britain's industrial heritage. [57253]

Mr. Alan Howarth

Our industrial heritage is of unquestionable value in helping us to understand our history and the way our forefathers lived and worked. No industry has had a bigger influence on creating modern day Britain than coal. I was very pleased to be able to announce recently that my Department will pay an annual revenue subsidy grant to the National Coal Mining Museum for England from 1999–2000.

The NCMME has a fascinating story to tell and DCMS support will provide the stability to allow it to plan for an exciting future.
