§ Mr. Tony Lloyd[holding answer 2 November 1998]: Pursuant to an answer given by my right hon. Friend the 636W Secretary of State for the Home Department to the hon. Member for Hertsmere (Mr. Clappison) on 27 October 1998, Official Report, column 124, our records indicate that Senator Pinochet arrived in the United Kingdom on 29 September 1997 and left on 21 October 1997, with a break abroad between 5–17 October. He arrived in London on his current visit on 22 September 1998.

§ Mr. Tony LloydOn 9 October, the Embassy inquired about Senator Pinochet's health and whereabouts following press inquiries it had received that he had died that afternoon in London. The Embassy afterwards faxed a note of this incident for the record to London. On 16 October, the Embassy commented on reports of Spanish judicial moves against Senator Pinochet.
