To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if working knowledge of the English language is a condition of employment for foreign veterinarians engaged by the Meat Hygiene Service. [57726]

Mr. Rooker

Foreign veterinarians engaged by the Meat Hygiene Service are required to have a working knowledge of the English language. The MHS has introduced an assessment, as part of the Official Veterinary Surgeon training course, for non-United Kingdom nationals, to assess their ability to understand and communicate in English.
