To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment has been made by his Department of the IMF's recent downgrading of forecasts for growth in the UK economy in comparison with other EU countries. [56874]

Mr. Byers

The IMF's latest forecast for growth in the UK in 1999 is broadly in line with the Government's forecast as set out in the Pre Budget Report published on 3 November.
