§ Mr. PriorTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will make a statement on access by the public to toilets in buildings under his departmental control. [56095]
§ Mr. Denham[holding answer 2 November 1998]: Members of the public, including those with disabilities, have access to toilets in most of the Department's buildings. Many buildings also provide access to baby changing facilities.
There are a number of buildings where there is no current provision. In some it may be possible to provide toilets as part of a programme of upgrade and improvement. In others the layout of the building may make it impossible to provide toilets adjacent to public caller areas.
Options for improving toilet facilities are being identified as part of the Department's programme of estate strategic planning.
