§ 30. Mr. Jim CunninghamTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what plans his Department has to dispose of the United Kingdom's stocks of anti-personnel land mines. [41326]
§ Mr. George RobertsonPlans have been drawn up to destroy all of the Army's operational stocks of anti-personnel land mines by 1 January 2000, which is well ahead of the timetable laid down by the Ottawa Convention. We are still working on arrangements for the destruction of the HB876 anti-personnel submunition of the RAF's JP233 Airfield denial weapon, but I am confident that this, too, will be achieved well before the Ottawa Convention deadline.
