To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many people with haemophilia in the United Kingdom are currently infected with hepatitis C as a result of their treatment in the NHS with contaminated blood products.

The Department estimates that around 4,000 people with haemophilia were infected with hepatitis C through blood products prior to the introduction of viral inactivation processes in 1985.97W
The latest figure quoted by the Haemophilia Society shows that they now assess the total number of haemophiliacs infected with hepatitis C at 4,800.
