§ Mr. MaudeTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment his Department has made of the352W impact of an increase in the price of Britain's sports facilities on the efficacy of advice given to take regular exercise. [40160]
§ Ms JowellThe Department's advice on the benefits of physical activity does not depend on the use of special sports facilities. The main thrust of theActive for Life campaign, which is administered by the Health Education Authority, is that significant health benefits accrue from simple regular physical activity, such as walking and cycling. These activities can be built into people's normal routines and, therefore, do not require the use of special facilities.
