Mr. Rooney

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what are the number and percentage of employers employing part-time workers, broken down by size of firm; and what are the number and percentage of firms in which(a) at least 25 per cent. and (b) at least 50 per cent. of the workforce is part-time. Letter from Tim Holt to Mr. Terry Rooney, dated 5 May 1998: As Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your parliamentary question on employers employing part-time employees. I apologise for the delay in my replying to you. The information you requested is not part of the standard set of results the ONS generates from business surveys, and new techniques had to be developed in order to generate the figures. The information provided in the attached tables is for Great Britain and excludes enterprises classified to agriculture.
