§ Mr. DenhamThe Government believe that work is the best form of welfare for people of working age. As part of the New Deal for Disabled People, we intend to test out a range of options to find out what are the most effective ways to help people with disabilities and long-term health problems to move back into full or part-time work. This will enable us to consider what changes are needed to the current system to help sick and disabled people who want to work to make the most of their abilities. We will consult fully on any proposals for national changes.
