To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was the amount of state benefits paid out to injured claimants, which was recovered by the Compensation Recovery Unit from successful defendants during each of the last three years. [34133]

The administration of the Compensation Recovery Unit is a matter for Peter Mathison, the Chief Executive of the Benefits agency. He will write to the hon. Member.

Letter from David Riggs to Mr. Phil Willis, dated 23 March 1998: The Secretary of State for Social Security has asked Peter Mathison to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question asking what was the amount of state benefits paid out to injured claimants which was recovered by the Compensation Recovery Unit from successful defendants during each of the last three years. As Mr. Mathison is away from the office on leave, I am replying.
