§ Mrs. Roche[holding answer 16 March 1998]: Mobile phone companies, like all other telecommunications operators, are licensed under the Telecommunications Act 1984 and regulated by OFTEL. In regulating the provision of licensed telecommunication services, the Director of Telecommunications may refer matters which he considers operate or may be expected to operate against 763W the public interest to the MMC and ask whether any effects adverse to the public interest could be remedied by way of licence modification.
