To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list each information, promotional, marketing and opinion survey contract, with its value, concluded by his Department and its agencies for the years(a) 1997–98, (b) 1998–99, (c) 1999–2000, (d) 2000–2001 and (e) 2001–2002. [32021]

Information and promotional activities undertaken by the Department during 1997–98, and where contracts have been let for specific component parts, covered the following areas:

  • Alternative Crops
  • Animal Health and Welfare
  • Market Task Force
  • Personal Imports
  • Plant Health and Horticulture
  • Quarantine and Rabies
  • Research and Development
  • British Food Promotion
  • Food Safety
  • Healthy Eating
  • Combating Fish Disease
  • Conservation Walks and Public Access
  • Countryside Matters and the General Public
  • Countryside Stewardship
  • Environmental Protection
  • Environmentally Sensitive Areas
  • Flood and Coastal Defence
  • Other Environmental Issues
  • Schemes—forms and explanatory literature.

The total cost for the year's activity is expected to be in the region of £3.5 million.

The programme for 1998–99 has still to be finalised, and no plans have been formulated for subsequent years up to 2001–02.
