§ Ms Glenda Jackson[holding answer 2 March 1998]: Government Departments will consider the availability of workspace parking spaces when drawing up Green Transport Plans. All Government Departments have been asked to draw up these plans for key buildings with the objective of minimising the environmental impact of their transport activities. The plans will be tailored to each location and the operational needs of individual Departments and the number of parking spaces required will be considered accordingly. The guide to Green Transport Plans issued to Government Departments in September last year explicitly encourages Departments to consider options for reducing or charging for car-parking spaces.
