§ Mr. RaynsfordOnly one draft water industry specification for plastic sewage pipes is currently under development and this is for thermoplastic structured pipes for the construction of gravity sewers. These pipes are larger than those generally used in household drainage. The guidance in the Approved Document to Part H of the Building Regulations lists pipe materials and the relevant British Standards, but does not specifically address the type of pipe in the water industry specification.
However, the references in Approved Documents are not exclusive and other materials or products may be suitable in the particular circumstance. Given this, pipes and fittings which comply with the draft water industry specification for plastic sewage pipes should be acceptable for use in drainage systems which need to meet the requirements of Part H of the Building Regulations.

§ Mr. RaynsfordThe need to review the Approved Document to Part H of the Building Regulations was discussed by the Building Regulations Advisory Committee on 19 February 1998. It was decided to consider what would be addressed in the review at the Committee's meeting in October 1998 when the outcome of some supporting research should be available. The review of the Approved Document should commence shortly afterwards.
