§ Dr. Lynne JonesTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer in what way he proposes to amend the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953 following the out-of-court settlement with Alan Veale; and if he will review the Act to consider whether other amendments should be made to enable transsexuals to have their birth certificates amended. [44299]
§ Mrs. LiddellIn order to correct an error or fact or substance in a birth or death register the Birth and Deaths Registration Act 1953 requires two statutory declarations to be made. The declarations must set out the nature of the error and the true facts of the case. I propose to amend the legislation to allow a Court Order to be accepted in place of one of the statutory declarations. The same provisions apply to the correction of the sex of an individual where it was wrongly recorded at birth.
