To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what estimate he has made of the wild boar population in(a) East Sussex, (b) Kent, (c) Dorset and (d) elsewhere in the United Kingdom; what is his policy in respect of these animals; and if he will make a statement. The Central Science Laboratory has recently completed a review of the current status and potential impact of wild boar on the English countryside. This Department and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food are currently considering the review and a statement will be made in the near future.
