Ms Lawrence

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how the Government are helping to develop participation in sport by young people. [42007]

Mr. Banks

The English Sports Council's National Junior Sports Programme provides a framework through which schools can work with a number of organisations to provide real opportunities in sport. Also, participation rates of young people have risen by up to three times in some areas because of facilities provided by the Lottery Sports Fund.

25. Mr. Gareth R. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what steps he is taking to increase opportunities for young people in London to participate in sport. [42012]

Mr. Banks

The English Sports Council works closely with all London Boroughs to increase opportunities for young people to participate in sport through a number of initiatives. The ESC is also part funding the London Youth Games, the finals of which take place on 11/12 July at Crystal Palace national Sports Centre.
