§ Mr. Jim Murphy
To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, pursuant to his answer of 26 February,Official Report, column 322, what proportion of the officers serving on the sports governing bodies listed are (a) under 25 years and (b) over 65 years of age; and what proportion are women.
§ Mr. Banks
In response to my hon. Friend's question, and following a meeting with me, the Central Council of Physical Recreation has agreed to conduct a survey of their membership to establish a profile of the officers serving on the sports governing bodies. This survey will address the questions raised by my hon. Friend and I have asked the CCPR to speak to him, and with my officials, about how this survey might best be conducted. The Chairman of the CCPR shares with me a desire to see the management of sports organisations fully representing the wide range of people who are keen on sport, and taking the increasingly professional approach which is needed for the management of these organisations as we enter the new century.
