To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what assessment he has made of the arrangements for the provision of advice during the lifetime of Teesside Development Corporation to its board by officers of the Corporation. [53443]

Mr. Caborn

I have made no such assessment. The arrangements are covered in the published reports of the Corporation's external auditors, and in reports by the Department's Internal Audit Service, which are confidential between the Department and the Corporation.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will estimate the costs of carrying out works on structural problems of the Tees Barrage. [53460]

These matters are now the responsibility of the Commission for the New Towns. I will write to my hon. Friend when I have made further inquiries.
