Friend the Chief Secretary to the Treasury on 12 June to allow for an investment in modernisation. A Green Paper will be published before the end of the year on the Future of the Teaching Profession. Decisions on teachers pay which may result from those consultations will be taken at a later stage.

Friend the Secretary of State will write in the near future to give the School Teachers' Review Body its remit for the 1999–2000 pay round, and will follow this up with detailed evidence and representations in September. The Review Body's terms of reference will be consistent with those published in810W Department and (b) bodies listed in the National Asset Register how many vehicles are currently (i) owned and (ii) leased; if he will indicate their (1) fuel types and (2) engine cubic capacities; and how many vehicles are expected to fall due for replacement in each of the years 1998–99, 1999–2000 and 2000–01.
