To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his answer of 22 July 1998,Official Report, column 544, what are the ingredients of the five commercial chemical products used in gardening at the three Isle of Sheppey prisons. [54959]

The ingredients of the five commercial chemical products used at Elmley prison are listed belowCasoron G: used for weed control in shrub beds a granular product containing 6.75 per cent. dichlobenil/2.6—dichlorobenzonitrite Mosstox: used for moss control contains dichlorophen 340 grams/litre(g/l) used in dilution, 27.9 per cent. with water (w/w) Roundup Biactive: used for weed control contains 360 g/l glyphosate, present as 480 g/l (41.1 per cent. w/w) of the isopropylamine salt of glyphosate Supertox 30: used for control of broad leaf weeds in grass contains 190 g/l (16.9 per cent. w/w) mecoprop and 90 g/l (8.03 per cent. w/w) 2.4—D as diethanolamine salts Trik: used for weed control contains aminotriazole 28 per cent. w/w, diuron, sodium hydroxide and 2.4—D.

My hon. Friend the Member for Gateshead, East and Washington, West (Ms Quin), said in the answer she gave my hon. Friend on 22 July 1998, Official Report, column 544, that all three prisons are happy to discuss environmental issues with interested parties.
