§ Mr. LansleyTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what cumulative net increase in compliance costs has been estimated in compliance cost assessments published by his Department since 1 May 1997. [52963]
§ Ms Hewitt[holding answer 28 July 1998]: The estimated net cumulative increase in compliance costs assessments published by the Chancellor's departments during the period 1 May 1997 to 30 June 1998 is as follows:
- Recurring: £7 million
- Non-recurring: In the range of £44 million—£94 million.
Of the non-recurring costs, some £25 million to £75 million is accounted for by the Modernisation of the Transfer Pricing Legislation arising out of the Finance (No.2) Bill 1998. This estimate is based on the minimum and maximum cost figures arising from consultation with parties who would be affected by the legislation and represents best and worst case assumptions.
