§ Mr. MilburnThe latest available data for England show that between 1996 and 1997, there was an upturn in the number of trainee general practitioners (now referred to as GP Registrars) of 2.9 per cent. Between 1987 and 1996 there was an average annual percentage decrease in the number of GP Registrars of 2.4 per cent.
The number of GP Registrars undergoing vocational training, in England on 1 October in each year from 1987 to 1997, is shown in the table. This is a snapshot of individuals in post on one specific day. 1997 is the last year for which information is available.
