§ Mr. Spellar[holding answer 20 July 1998]: Since 1 May 1997, the Ministry of Defence has received 17 Parliamentary Questions and 7 letters from MPs on the subject of the Future Large Aircraft, FLA. No representations have been received on the use of the FLA in respect of the short term requirement for additional strategic lift as announced in the Strategic Defence Review White Paper. The FLA will not be available in time to meet that requirement but remains a contender for a longer term requirement to replace our current air transport fleet.
