Mrs. Fyfe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what measures he is taking to ensure(a) adequate and (b) secure funding for services providing information, support and refuge to those experiencing domestic abuse. [52271]

Mr. McLeish

[holding answer 24 July 1998]: Local funding is for individual local authorities and other agencies, but nationally, the Scottish Office continues to give grants to Scottish Women's Aid, amounting this year to over £200,000 for their work on developing refuge and other permanent rehousing options for abused women who would otherwise be homeless, and social welfare work and training.

Mrs. Fyfe
