§ Mr. Keith SimpsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the(a) market and (b) book value of stockholdings which his Department intends to dispose of over the next three years. [50956]
§ Mr. Spellar[holding answer 17 July 1998]: The SDR has set out a Departmental target to dispose of holdings of non munitions stores with a book value of £2.2 billion over the next three years.
The market value of these essentially surplus and obsolescent items will amount to only a small fraction of this figure. Receipts from the sales of equipment, spares and munitions over the last three years have amounted to some £80 million per annum. This level is expected to be maintained over the next four years.
