To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what recent discussions he has held with the Scotch whisky industry relating to the level of tax on Scotch whisky. [50510]

Mr. Geoffrey Robinson

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury met representatives of the Scotch Whisky Association on 24 February to discuss the level of duty in the run up to the Budget. Officials at Customs and Excise meet the association regularly to discuss all aspects of spirits duty.
