§ Mrs. EwingTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what estimate he has made of the number of United Kingdom citizens who travelled abroad without travel insurance in (i) 1995, (ii) 1996 and (iii) 1997; and if he will make a statement. [22598]
§ Mr. FatchettWe have no accurate way of measuring this. For our own purposes we estimate that 10 per cent. to 15 per cent. of Britons still do not take out travel insurance when they travel abroad. Our estimates for 1995, 1996 and 1997 are similar. We strongly advise that all travellers take out insurance.
