§ Mr. BoatengThere was a review of the regulation and inspection of social services in 1995–96 which covered the regulation and inspection of nursing homes. It stemmed from a Government consultation document, "Moving Forward", published in October 1995, for which Mr. Tom Burgner acted as independent assessor of consultation responses. The report following the review, "The Regulation and Inspection of Social Services" (commonly known as the Burgner Report) was published in October 1996. Copies of both "Moving Forward" and the Burgner Report are available in the Library.
We are committed to creating independent regulatory arrangements for residential care and nursing homes which are tough, transparent and accountable. We intend to publish a White Paper next year setting out our proposals.
