HL Deb 12 January 1998 vol 584 cc121-2WA
Lord Lester of Herne Hill

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their estimate of the total costs of giving training to members of courts and tribunals about the implications of the forthcoming Human Rights Act; and how it is intended that funds should be allocated for this purpose across the United Kingdom.

The Lord Chancellor

The cost of judicial training in preparation for implementation of the Human Rights Bill is estimated to be £5.0 million: £4.5 million for England and Wales; £450,000 for Scotland and £50,000 for Northern Ireland. Continuation training will be provided after implementation as necessary.
