HC Deb 12 January 1998 vol 304 c126W
Mr. David Stewart

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will support the introduction of a national screening programme for diabetes among high risk groups, with particular reference to those aged over 40 years with a hereditary propensity. [21617]

Mr. Galbraith

The Government receive advice on national screening programmes from the UK National Screening Committee, which prioritises existing or future screening programmes against criteria which are internationally recognised. The Committee will consider national screening for diabetes, along with other possible screening programmes, in accordance with its developing work programme. Any future decisions on a national programme will be made in the light of those considerations.
