§ Clare ShortMy right hon. Friend the Prime Minister announced an increase by 50 per cent. of our bilateral commitments for basic education, health care and clean water in the sub-Saharan Africa. This means my Department will commit at least £360 million over the next three years in these areas compared with £240 million in the previous three. Funds will come from existing resources and will be found by giving higher priority to programmes to combat poverty.
